(*) Co-tenants are adults who share a housing unit (with the same house number and mailbox) of up to five bedrooms and with a maximum of 10 people, which is their main residence.
 
Top Familiale liability insurance is a Belgian-law insurance policy from AG, distributed by BNP Paribas Fortis. The policy is valid for 1 year, at the end of which it will be renewed by tacit agreement for the same period, except where it is cancelled at least three months before the renewal date.

For a policy taken out or renewed by tacit agreement on or after 1 October 2024, you have until two months before the renewal date to cancel it. In addition, from the second year onwards, you can cancel the policy at any time. Cancellation will take effect at the end of a 2-month period starting the day after notice is given by registered mail or served upon us, or the day after we provide an acknowledgement of receipt.

Free Family+ Coverage Package

If you take out a new Top Family Private Liability Insurance or add a repricing endorsement to your contract between 1 October and 15 November 2026 inclusive, you’ll receive the Family+ Coverage Package free for the entire contract duration.

This offer is available online via the Easy Banking App or Easy Banking Web (explicitly select the Family+ Pack option), or by appointment at a BNP Paribas Fortis branch, a Bpost office, or through the Easy Banking Centre at +32 2 762 20 00.

Family insurance: extensive protection

Discover the many reasons why the Top Familiale personal liability insurance is a good idea.

  • Everywhere in the world, day and night

    You, the members of your household, your co-tenants and your pets are covered everywhere in the world, day and night, and the amounts insured are large.

  • Also away from home

    Your Top Familiale personal liability insurance policy will protect you if you cause accidental damage to places you temporarily occupy, such as a holiday residence, a room used for a private party or a dwelling you occupy occasionally (up to three months) for private or professional reasons.

  • Cover for visitors

    If grandchildren staying with you during the school holidays accidentally cause damage to third parties, your liability will be covered.

  • Sports and leisure

    If you cause damage to third parties while practising a hobby or sport, including the use of a drone (max. 150 kg) or a rented boat for example, you will be covered.

  • Transport

    You’re covered if you cause damage to third parties while travelling using an active travel means of transport, such as a bicycle, electric bicycle with a maximum speed of 25 km/h, scooter or electric scooter with a maximum speed of 45 km/h.

  • Also for young people

    If you’re between 18 and 30 years old, you can get a discount on your premium. And some types of cover provided are particularly suited to your lifestyle (discover them below).

Who’s covered by your family insurance policy?

  • You and the members of your household or your co-tenants.
  • You, your partner, your children or your co-tenants who are temporarily living elsewhere, even for a long period: for example, if you’re on a business trip abroad or if your children are in student accommodation or studying abroad through the Erasmus scheme.
  • Your pet: a dog, a cat or another type of animal (rodent, reptile, spider etc.).
  • Children and pets under your care, at home.
  • Members of your household or co-tenants are temporarily covered after moving out, until they take out a policy in their own name
  • People who stay with you and/or who take care of your children or pets at home.

The extent of your cover with the Top Familiale personal liability insurance

Main risks covered

Top Familiale personal liability insurance covers your liability and compensates for damage that you, the members of your household, your co-tenants or your pets accidentally cause to a third party outside of work. For example:

  • Your dog bites a neighbour.

  • You ride a bicycle and injure a pedestrian by hitting them.

  • A passer-by breaks their arm after slipping on a section of pavement that is icy because you failed to clear it.

Main exclusions

You will not be covered if you, a member of your household, one of your co-tenants or your pet:

  • Damages their own property

  • Damages someone else's property intentionally

  • Causes damage in a work context

  • Causes damage that must be covered by a legally required insurance policy, such as third-party car insurance, unless the damage is also explicitly covered by the Top Familiale personal liability insurance.

You may also lodge your complaint directly with this body.

Main risks covered

  • Experts’ and lawyers’ fees, as well as legal proceedings costs;

  • It also applies in the event of a contractual dispute relating to your family liability insurance.

Main risks not covered

  • Damage resulting in costs that do not exceed the excess specified in your contract (except in the case of medical error or bodily injury);

  • Claims brought against persons living under your roof;

  • The “civil recourse” cover does not apply if the claim results from a state of intoxication or alcohol impairment on the part of the insured that is punishable.

Main risks covered

  • Damage to items you rent or borrow, as well as damage caused to third parties by items you lend;

  • The excess of your private liability insurance is waived if the amount of the damage compensated exceeds the excess specified in your contract;

  • It doubles the cover limits of your Family Legal Protection insurance.

Main risks not covered

  • Gross negligence (for insured persons over 18): intoxication or a similar state, acts of violence, intentional damage;

  • Damage resulting from gradual pollution;

  • Damage covered by compulsory insurance;

  • Damage not arising from activities within the scope of private life.

  • If friends come to help you move or do small jobs around your home and accidentally cause damage to third parties, our "Favours between friends" cover (included in the basic Top Familiale policy) will protect your friends.
  • The basic Top Familiale policy also covers any potential damage you cause to temporary residences, such as a holiday rental with friends.
  • If you live in shared accommodation, the Familiale+ pack covers any damage you cause to your co-tenants.
