Music store Rombaux is a household name in Bruges. Customers receive tailored music advice and personal guidance when buying a piano or guitar. And it’s exactly this personal approach that managing director Ignace Minne also appreciates at BNP Paribas Fortis.
"My grandfather, Arthur Rombaux, after whom the business is named, was a passionate pianist," Ignace enthuses. "In 1918, he opened a music store on the same street where the current store is located. In the 1920s, when he had the opportunity to buy the historic building where Rombaux is still based today, he didn’t hesitate for a moment."
Over the years, the building has already undergone a thorough renovation, carefully preserving its historical elements. About a year and a half ago, Olivier Ryckaert, relationship manager at BNP Paribas Fortis, met with the Minne family again. This time, he helped them work out a financial solution to refresh the first floor of the building and renovate the workshop.
“Olivier listened to us and searched for the most suitable solution,” says Ignace. "It’s very important to me that there is real person in front of me, someone I can talk to. This is necessary to build a relationship of trust."
"A self-employed person's time is precious," stresses Olivier Ryckaert. "They need to be able to call their banker to arrange a financing solution. My job is to take the stress off my customers on that front so they can focus on their business."
"Now that the renovation work on the workshop is behind us, we can work at a much faster pace than in previous years," says son Benedict Minne. “I build classic concert guitars there and repair string instruments, from ukuleles to cellos.”
Previous generations focused on the piano, but Benedict has a passion for guitars. From a very young age, he was fascinated by the workshop. "I wanted to know how the instruments were made and I often helped out too," he says. "That's how I got straight into the business."
"When my son takes over Rombaux, we will again call on BNP Paribas Fortis," father Ignace concludes. "We feel that Olivier is there for us, that he knows our story and understands our needs. That creates a bond and trust."
