BANKING ET INCLUSION

Our commitments to inclusion

Aware that every path is different, our bank is committed to greater financial inclusion and stronger social cohesion in Belgium.

How we support financial inclusion

Financial inclusion is a key pillar of both a resilient economy and a fair society. Its aim is to equip everyone with the skills to manage their money and plan their financial future independently.

Examples include:

  • Collaboration with Febelfin on financial education through 'Banking in the Classroom': colleagues visit secondary schools to share their expertise and guide students in managing their finances.
  • Around one hundred organisations are working to bridge the digital divide for those who are not connected online, as part of the DigitAll coalition, of which BNP Paribas Fortis is a member.
  • The bank also partners with microStart to provide microcredit to young entrepreneurs who do not have access to traditional bank financing.

How we promote social cohesion

Through our corporate funds and other initiatives supporting organisations that create impact for young people, we contribute to greater social cohesion and equal opportunities. We do this by improving access to education, stable employment, housing, as well as leisure, wellbeing and recognition.

  • BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation, building young people’s confidence

Our corporate philanthropic fund, BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation, supports organisations working on social cohesion and the development of children and young people. Examples of inspiring projects funded include:

    • Supporting the professional integration of young refugees
    • Strengthening connections between young people to build a more united society

  • Impact Together, supporting social organisations with our clients

Our second corporate philanthropic fund is called Impact Together. It supports social organisations and aims to strengthen them structurally. It is funded through part of the management fees generated when clients invest in selected responsible investment funds*. This has enabled the funding of:

    • Consultants who help non-profit organisations strengthen their structure or sustain their activities
    • Projects aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of their buildings

  • Inclusion Lab, a space for social non-profits

At our headquarters in Brussels, we provide co-working spaces for six local non-profit organisations working on financial inclusion and social cohesion. It is a place for collaboration, inspiration and sharing knowledge and resources to strengthen their impact together. The six organisations currently active in the Inclusion Lab are:

1MillionHours2Help : our colleagues strengthen our commitment to society

In Belgium, volunteers can dedicate half a working day each year to a partner organisation in their region that is committed to the environment or to a more inclusive society.
