Simplified payments thanks to SEPA

Since the introduction of the SEPA (Single Euro Payment Area), payments within the area take place in exactly the same way as those within Belgium. The same simplicity, the same level of security and the same execution times.

Your transfers made easy

Using European bank transfers, payments can be made anywhere in the SEPA, with a uniform account structure: accounts are identified uniquely by the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and a BIC (Bank Identifier Code).

The SEPA countries

The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) comprises the following 41 countries:

The 27 EU Member States (which are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Vatican City State/Holy See, and as of 2025 Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, Moldova and Serbia (with possibility of SEPA payments to Serbia only as of May 2026).

The easy way to make of European payments

European bank transfers offer many benefits.

Automatic bill payments

Simplify the payment of your electricity, water or phone bills by opting to pay your suppliers automatically through a European direct debit.

After we receive a bill covered by a direct debit instruction, the amount due is debited from your current account.

Secure card payments

All BNP Paribas Fortis payment cards have Bancontact and Visa features, and benefit from chip and PIN security.

Secure online payments

Online payments using your debit and credit cards are secured using the CVC code, the three digits on the back of your card.
