The insurance-backed 10-year guarantee is a Belgian-law liability insurance policy from AG SA, distributed by BNP Paribas Fortis SA.
The policy is valid for 1 year, at the end of which it will be renewed by tacit agreement for the same period, except where it is cancelled at least three months before the renewal date.
For a policy taken out or renewed by tacit agreement on or after 1 October 2024, you have until two months before the renewal date to cancel it.
Are you a contractor or do you work in the construction or renovation sector?
If so, you’re legally required to provide an insurance-backed 10-year guarantee for projects that affect the stability or solidity of a building.
You will need an insurance certificate to work on such projects. In the event of problems, the insurance policy will protect you from financial disaster by paying out on your behalf in the event of damage.

If a problem arises with the stability or solidity of a building, including those caused by waterproofing defects, on one of your construction sites within 10 years of its final completion, and if you’re found liable, you’re legally required to compensate the client.
You’re legally required to have an insurance-backed 10-year guarantee if you work on a residential building in Belgium and if your construction project requires the involvement of an architect and involves structural work.
To take out this insurance-backed 10-year guarantee, you must also have taken out construction liability insurance or contractor liability insurance with us, along with the operational and post-completion add-ons.
