Payconiq is disappearing - but nothing changes for you thanks to Wero and Bancontact
3 min
Payconiq by Bancontact’s solutions for collecting payments from your customers are evolving. From 2026, they will be rebranded as ‘Wero and Bancontact’. What does this mean for you? Beyond the name change, not much, as we explain below.
Payconiq by Bancontact is becoming Wero and Bancontact: what does this mean for you?
Do you use a Payconiq by Bancontact sticker with a QR code or the Payconiq Go platform to collect mobile payments from your customers? The Payconiq by Bancontact brand will be replaced by Wero in 2026. Until then, and for banks that are not members of Wero, transactions will be carried out via Bancontact.
But apart from the name change, nothing will change in practical terms:
- QR codes will continue to work as they do today
- Transaction and operating costs as well as reporting systems will remain the same
Why switch from Payconiq by Bancontact to Wero?
The switch from Payconiq by Bancontact to Wero is an evolution from a Belgian mobile payment system to a European solution. Wero will be available in Belgium, France and Germany, and very soon in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and other countries. This expansion will enable you to collect payments from customers in these European countries, both in-store and via Wero.
Do you need to replace your sticker?
In early 2026, you will receive a new sticker displaying the Wero and Bancontact branding, which your customers will scan to make payments. But the QR code on this new sticker will remain the same.
Do you need to change platforms to manage your customers’ mobile payments?
The Payconiq by Bancontact platform will become the Bancontact and Wero platform. But you don't need to do anything: the update will be done automatically and doesn't require any action on your part.
Are Wero and Bancontact secure?
Yes, Wero and Bancontact are designed to ensure the security of your transactions and the protection of your personal information. Your data is protected by the same high security standards that apply to all your online banking transactions. The rebranding has no impact on the stringent security requirements.
