Want to improve your home's energy efficiency? Solar panels, heat pumps, or a combination of both. Which is best? Find out here!

Should I invest in solar panels or a heat pump?
You have decided to make your home more energy-efficient. Great! But you still have lots of questions. Should you install solar panels, a heat pump, or a combination of both? Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees.
Each house has its own energy profile, which is why we recommend getting expert advice. That way you can determine which system suits your needs best (number of panels, type of heat pump). An architect, the certified energy expert who drew up your PEB/EPB certificate or your regional Energy Counter will happily provide technical assistance.
You are not on your own. We are also happy to explain the available options and subsidies to you. And we provide advice on suitable loans and investments.
Solar panels vs heat pumps, which is best?
Solar panels
What is it?
A system for generating renewable energy. It can be either thermal or photovoltaic. The former converts solar energy into heat, while the latter produces electricity.
What are the benefits?
- The prices of solar panels have dropped significantly.
- You benefit from regional subsidies.
- Your electricity bill will be significantly reduced, especially if you use them during the day.
- They are easy to install. Check that your roof is well insulated and suitable for panels.
- The installation is simple and does not involve much red tape. You do not need a building permit.
What you need to know
- There is support available for this type of investment, such as subsidies and energy loans (instalment loans).
Heat pump
What is it?
A combination of natural energy and electricity, which you can use to heat your home and sanitary water. There are different types of heat pumps: air/air, air/water (+air conditioning) and geothermal.
What are the benefits?
- A heat pump extracts up to 80% of its energy directly from the environment (air, soil or water). It is a very energy-efficient heating system.
- You benefit from regional subsidies.
What you need to know
- Belgium's three regions have different energy subsidies. The schemes vary depending on the type of heat pump.
- A certified installer must carry out the installation.
A heat pump and solar panels: the smart choice?
By combining these two energy-saving investments in a smart way, you can influence both your consumption and your production of renewable energy, especially if you install solar panels with batteries. That way you also reap the benefits at night or in winter. In addition, you improve the EPC (energy performance certificate) rating of your home through self-consumption.
Energy loan
Our energy loan (instalment loan) comes with a very favourable interest rate if at least 75% of the work is aimed at saving energy.
