What is a social security fund?

3 min

A social security fund acts as the link between the government and you as a self-employed worker, or your company.

This non-profit association manages your social security and legal obligations on behalf of the government. Whether you are self-employed as your main or secondary activity, you must register with a social security fund before starting your business activity.

This is a legal requirement to secure your social entitlements, such as pension rights and sickness benefits.

What does a social security fund do for you?

As a self-employed worker, you are protected, and in return, you pay social contributions every quarter. Just as part of an employee’s gross salary goes to social security (RSZ), your contributions are paid to the social security fund of your choice, such as our preferred partner, Partena Professional. They then transfer your contributions to the RSZ. Your social security fund can also help you with:

  • Calculating your quarterly social contributions
  • Exploring your options if your activity or income changes suddenly
  • Answering your questions on topics such as health insurance, pensions or maternity leave

How much does it cost to join a social security fund?

Registration itself is free. You pay quarterly social contributions based on your income. These contributions include a small administrative fee. As a BNP Paribas Fortis customer, you can also benefit from our partnership with Partena Professional, for example they offer free activation of your company number.

Why choose Partena Professional as your social security fund?
