How to protect yourself against phishing ?

85% of Belgians are unsure whether online payments are secure, and a quarter say that they have little or no information on this subject. These results come from a survey by Profacts on behalf of BNP Paribas Fortis.

We take various measures to make your online banking transactions and payments secure. To get around that protection, cybercriminals are increasingly trying to steal personal banking data from internet users, such as account numbers and passwords. This practice is known as phishing.

An email or WhatsApp message

For example, scammers send an email or a WhatsApp message in which they pretend to be employees of the bank, a government department or another company. The message contains a link to a page inviting you to enter some personal data. Some fraudsters call you directly or send a personalised letter.

What we will never ask you

The best protection against phishing is vigilance. Don’t take every email or message you receive at face value. “We will never ask you for confidential information, such as your code or electronic signature, by phone or email,” says Hugues Colbrant, app security expert at BNP Paribas Fortis. If you receive such a request, you know it's phishing.

If you’ve been the victim of phishing, immediately alert the local police and contact us as soon as possible.

Good habits to adopt

Having a complex password, identifying suspicious links, using the internet in secure environments, paying securely: it only takes a few simple actions to stay safe. We have gathered a wealth of practical tips for you to conduct your online business with complete peace of mind.
