Income protection

A sporting accident? A long-term illness? Make sure you get a comfortable payout while you are unfit for work, even if you are self-employed.

What is Income Protection Insurance?

It is insurance provided by AG Insurance against loss of income if you are unable to work and/or long-term disabled as a result of an illness or accident. This insurance gives you a monthly payout:

  • Certainty: you will never be without an income, even if you are unable to work and are no longer earning.
  • Flexible: you decide your premiums and the payouts you require.
  • Tax breaks: your premiums are tax-deductible as a business expense.

As a self-employed person or a member of the liberal professions, there is just one thing you fear: being unable to work. This is because you no longer have an income if you can no longer work. The statutory protection is minimal.

Avoid this worry with our Income Protection Insurance. You can opt for monthly premiums of a minimum of EUR 25 or for an annual premium.

If you become unfit for work you get supplementary payouts in addition to the statutory benefits. This makes it possible for you to fulfil your obligations.

Are you a doctor, dentist, pharmacist or physiotherapist under the State health system? Our National Sickness and Invalidity Insurance Institution (INAMI/RIZIV) Income Protection Insurance is highly advantageous since the premium is paid from INAMI/RIZIV payments.

Your Income Protection Insurance covers all incapacity for work: from short-term incapacity to permanent, total and partial disability. You can count on a payout of if you become partially disabled by at least 25%.

And we continue the payout for as long as you continue to be unfit for work, even up to your retirement.

You can also use the payouts to repay a loan during the period of disability.

In addition to the extensive basic cover, you can also:

  • determine for yourself the amount of your monthly payouts;
  • opt for a fixed payout or for a 3% annual revaluation;
  • determine for yourself the length of your qualifying period, that is to say the period of time for which you use your own income.

If you itemise your business expenses in your tax return, your premium is tax-deductible. This tax break means a saving of 30% on your premium.

Christian is a 35-year-old lawyer. He works hard and his wife has no business income. Business is good until the day Christian suddenly contracts an illness which means that he will be unable to work for a long time.

Luckily, Christian has opted for Income Protection Insurance. At the end of the 30-day qualifying period, he receives a payout of EUR 65 per day, which corresponds to around EUR 2,000 a month. This means that he can repay his Home Loan and concentrate his energy on getting better.

Christian also deducts the whole of his monthly premium of EUR 104.82 from his business income.
