BEWARE of suspicious screens!


More and more computers are infected with undetected malware. Cyber-criminals can use dangerous viruses like this to display fake screens, for instance, so they can perform transactions in your name but to their benefit.

When might suspicious screens like this be displayed and why should you take immediate action?

Suspicious screens like this are displayed immediately after you log on to PC banking. This is what happens:

  • You log on as usual using an Isignature. That part is perfectly normal.
  • But immediately afterwards, a screen is displayed that you don't usually see and which has no reason to be there.
  • It asks you to enter an Ssignature, supposedly in order to ‘synchronise your security module', to ‘confirm your identity' or some other suspicious reason. Always remember that an S signature is only required to confirm a transaction or task you've initiated yourself (e.g. transfer, stock exchange order, Easy banking registration or update of your personal details).
  • What if you see a screen like this? These screens can be evidence of a serious hacking incident. If you see one, you should take immediate action, as your computer has been compromised. So far, we do not know of any cases in Dutch or in French. But it is possible that screens of this kind could also be displayed in another language. Several examples are shown at the bottom of the page.


What should you do if you're confronted with a suspicious screen in PC banking?

  • Try to capture a screenshot of the suspect screen that you can send to our experts.
  • Then click the Log out button to securely close your PC banking session and close all the windows in your internet browser.

What things should a PC banking user always look out for?

Hackers seem to be increasingly targeting end users in their online fraud attempts. It's our duty therefore to support and advise you, so that you can use PC banking in complete security. You should pay particular attention to the following details:

  • When you log on to PC banking, BNP Paribas Fortis will only ask you for an Isignature .You should therefore be very suspicious of any request for an S signature just after you've logged on.
  • You will only get a legitimate request for an S signature to confirm a transaction. What's more, you will only be asked to enter an S signature to confirm a transaction that you yourself have requested or initiated. Any other signature request should be treated as highly suspicious.
  • Need to confirm a transfer in PC banking using an S signature? In that case, PC banking always incorporates the amount of the transfer and part of the beneficiary account number in the signature. Always check that these are correct.
  • Also pay attention to the languages used in the screens you see displayed. All the texts – including those of the buttons – should be correctly written in the language to which your version of PC banking is set. Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, clumsy style, etc. are therefore suspicious, as are buttons labelled in a different language to the rest of the PC banking environment.
