Recently graduated? Degree in your back pocket? Congratulations!

Did you graduate recently? If so, be sure to register straight away as a job seeker at the VDAB (Flemish Office for Employment and Vocational Training). Once your waiting period is over, you will qualify for benefit payments and you'll also start building up your social security rights (pension, medical care, etc.). You can also receive training in applying for jobs and extra courses to boost your chances in the employment market. If you're a registered job seeker, you also receive a travel allowance to attend job interviews, which is a nice help.

What about the health insurance fund?

  • Are you a registered job seeker aged under 25? In that case, you're still covered by your parents' health insurance.
  • Aged 25 or older and registered as a job seeker? You need to join a health insurance fund yourself.
  • Graduates who are not registered as job seekers also need to join a health insurance fund themselves. They are no longer covered by their parents' health insurance.
