Have you paid too much VAT? If so, to be able to recover this credit balance you must give the number of an account held with a Belgian bank. Your BNP Paribas Fortis account gives you an advantage here: refunds are available more quickly in your current account.

All you have to do is tell the VAT Authority your account number.

When your regular VAT declaration shows that the tax to be repaid exceeds the tax due, you have a credit balance. Where this is the case, you, as a tax payer, have the choice between: carrying the balance forward to the next financial period or opting for payment of a refund. For a refund, you need to apply to the VAT office to which you submit your declarations. Your credit balance will otherwise remain with the authority and be carried forward to the next financial period. To obtain a VAT refund, you need to tell the VAT Authority the number of the bank account to which you want your VAT current account credit balance to be repaid.
