What protection exists for your deposits and investments?
Under Belgian law all sums held in accounts with BNP Paribas Fortis (current accounts, term deposits and savings deposits), and savings certificates (subject to certain conditions – see brochure ‘What protection exists for your deposits and investments?’) are covered by a deposit protection scheme, for up to EUR 100,000 per depositor (individuals and legal entities, with the exception of certain specified categories of depositors, such as credit institutions, financial institutions, insurance companies). The maximum cover of EUR 100,000 applies to all deposits, regardless of currency, held with the bank’s various brands (BNP Paribas Fortis, Fintro and Hello bank!).
Financial instruments (other than savings certificates) at BNP Paribas Fortis are also covered by a separate protection scheme for a maximum of EUR 20,000 (regardless of the currency of the financial instruments). This protection applies to both individuals and legal entities, with a few exceptions (which include large companies and investors carrying on banking or financial activities).
