The main risks covered by Temporary Travel Insurance
Anne and Benoît are on their honeymoon in Laos. The couple is discovering their superb bridal suite. Benoît slips on some exotic fruit that has fallen out of the welcome basket, while he is about to carry his bride Anne in his arms over the threshold. He breaks his leg and is taken to the nearest hospital. To get Benoît back on his feet, the couple can use the local health services without worrying about any nasty surprises because the medical costs they would have to pay will be covered by their insurer. A few days later, Anne is bedridden with a high fever and severe pain in her joints. The couple doesn’t speak the Lao language. Luckily, Benoît can count on Europ Assistance, who arrange to send a doctor who speaks their language following his call. The diagnosis is clear: they have contracted Dengue fever, a local illness requiring hospitalisation. After 5 days in hospital their condition has not improved, so the couple can be brought back to Belgium.
The main risks not covered by Temporary Travel Insurance
Yves and Sophie love winter sports, and are enjoying a few days in the Swiss mountains. Yves was already feeling ill before they left, and decides to visit a local doctor. This consultation will not be covered by his insurer. Even though Yves has not yet totally recovered from his cold, the couple decide to go skiing off-piste. While they are skiing off the marked slopes, they are caught up in an avalanche. Sophie ends up with a broken ankle. Yves was buried under a thick layer of powdered snow and is suffering from hypothermia. They are taken to the nearest hospital. Because Yves and Sophie deliberately chose to ski off-piste, the couple's medical costs will not be covered by their insurance policy. Now feeling homesick, the couple decide to return to Belgium as quickly as possible so that they can continue their holiday at home. Their return trip home will not be arranged or covered by their insurer.
The above list of covered and non-covered risks is not comprehensive.
